    Description

The 5 Kenyan shilling banknote is part of the 1978 series of banknotes where the denomination was no longer spelled out in large English letters under the national emblem. It was withdrawn after Mzee Jomo Kenyattas death on August 22, and demonetized on December 2011. The front side features the first president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and the Coat of Arms of Kenya. The backside depicts a coffee plantation with Mount Kenya at the background. The note has a solid security thread and a lion head watermark. Its dimensions are 135 mm by 68 mm.
