    Description

Offered for sale is this 1867 partial Journal / Ledger in poor overall condition due to the fact that parts of it are missing and it has many loose pages. Nonetheless, does display excellent penmanship and is readable. I believe it is from a general store or farm store as the purchases and billing are often and for a wide variety of products. The top of the title page indicates it belonged to a C. E. Niles probably from New York State as that is where the ledger was manufactured. The writing at the top of the title page reads, "C. E. Niles 1867 Another year of tug and lug yet work is sweet, if you don't strike to many veins of Vinegar". It is also missing its hardcovers as the photos show. There is light yellowing and light foxing but the pages are still very pliable. There is wear on the edges as to be expected. The missing days are as follows: January is missing the whole month..........February is missing Feb 1st through Feb 20th.................March is missing Mar 1st through Mar 6th.....................April is completely here..............May is completely here...............June is completely here..............July is completely here..............August is completely here.............September is missing Sept 26 through to the end of the month................October is missing Oct 1st through Oct 9th..............November is completely here...............and lastly, December is missing Dec 5th through Dec 11th and Dec 12th is missing half the page. All the pages here have writing on them. There are "Rec'd by Railway" and "Rec'd by U.S. Express" entries along with a reference to Steuben County on the February 23 date. The pages measure about 13 1/4" by 8" and there are 83 1/2 pages or 42 leaves not counting the title page. Shipping and handling to any of the 50 states is .00 and will be paid for by the winning bidder.
